Day 2 in Somabay in Egypt at the first stage of the 2024 World Aquatic Open Water Swimming World Cup series was held today.
With the less choppy conditions than Day 1, the mixed relay race was as exciting at it could get in the turquoise blue 21°C open water.
It can down to a final touch as explained by Gregorio Paltrinieri, “I was really tired after yesterday, so I didn’t want to push hard. I knew Marc-Antoine would catch me, and it was all about the touch. It was extremely close. I think I was unlucky at the touch. Despite all this, it was a good race.”
And that it was.
The French anchor swimmer, Marc-Antoine Olivier just barely out-touched Paltrinieri to win for Team France. “It’s a great result, I’m so happy. Yesterday we did a good result on the 10 km, I’m happy that we finished this World Cup with a gold medal.
