Marianne Wieland de Alvarez of Honu Para Swim Team raised four daughters in Vancouver, Canada together with her swimming husband, a Mexican Olympic swimmer. She also helps identify and develop others, focusing on disabled swimmers who wish to enjoy the open water. In 2014, Alvarez organized a Para-Relay to swim across the English Channel, six years after she started coaching Honu, a para swim team in Vancouver. She coached at the 2012 London Paralympics and the 2015 Toronto Para Pan American Games. And the first day she met Haro, they discussed swimming across the English Channel. One of her most accomplished para-swimmers is Pedro Rangel Haro from Guadalajara, Mexico.
