USA Swimming Championships Moved To Cooler Waters

Spread the love

In a decision based on safety and its own recent recommendations, USA Swimming approved a relocation of the 2011 USA Swimming National Open Water Swimming Championships from Fort Myers to Fort Lauderdale, Florida.

It is a change to the 82°F (28°C) waters of Ft. Lauderdale rather than the expected 87°F (31°C) waters of Ft. Myers.

The decision was based on the possibility that the maximum water temperature may be exceeded for its June championships in Fort Myers. In a move to Ft. Lauderdale, where the Fran Crippen SafeSwim will be held on May 7th, USA Swimming decided to move its championship where the expected water temperatures are expected to be cooler and more appropriate for the all-important World Championship selection races.
