8 Bridges Spans The Open Water

Spread the love

Visionary and marathon swimmer extraordinaire Dave Barra announced the registration is now open for the first five stages of the 8 Bridges Hudson River Swim.

8 Bridges is a 120-mile, 7-day, 7-stage swim in the Hudson River, New York. The swim starts at the Rip Van Winkle Bridge near Catskill and finishes at the Verrazano-Narrows Bridge in New York City. At the start of the ebb tide each day, swimmers enter the water at one of the 8 bridges on the course.

They then swim down river to the next bridge. The following day, swimmers resume swimming at the bridge where they finished on the previous day. The bridges are spaced between 13 and 20 miles apart.

The first 8 Bridges Swim will take place between July 8 – 14, 2011. We also have a Facebook Group.

This definitely sounds like a swim that the indomitable Dave Barra devised.
