At the finish of the 3 hour 13 minute 15 km FINA Open Water Swimming Grand Prix (Maratón Cancún in Cancun, Czech Olympian Jana Pechanová won in a close battle over two-time Olympian Angela Maurer 3:13:14.21 to 3:13:14.54.

Athletes in elite open water swimming competitions must touch the vertical plane of the finish. It is a touch that is official; not the breaking of the plane of the goal.

Video cameras are placed at various locations around the finish in order to determine the order of close finishes.
