Open Water Swimming…Not As Easy As It Looks

Spread the love

Jamie Patrick is making it look easy.

But his 68-mile swim around Lake Tahoe is based on decades of training. As an age-group swimmer, as a high school swimmer and as a college swimmer doing more than 10,000 meters a day, he has a solid aerobic foundation and excellent swimming skills that he built upon as an adventure swimmer.

A CBS film crew is following Patrick since his start this early morning California time. The CBS reporter wanted to swim with Patrick for 20 minutes as she “works out five times a week in the gym and is in good shape.”

But after 10 minutes in Lake Tahoe she exited the water, saying how unbelievably hard it was to keep up with the life-long waterman and founder of the Lake Tahoe Swimming Society.
