It enables dreams to come true.
Channel Swimming & Piloting Federation is one of the two governing bodies for those individuals or relays that want to cross the English Channel, the most hallowed waterway in the world.
The CS&PF is the newest and largest organisation for English Channel swimming is recognised and approved by the British Maritime and Coastguard Agency, and the French coastguard. Its database holds a comprehensive list of all the English Channel swims since 1875 while its members are living legends of the channel swimming world.
Run by volunteers, the CS&PF was elected as an Honour Organisation by the International Marathon Swimming Hall of Fame.
“The IMSHOF extends its hearty congratulations to Nick Adams, Kevin Murphy and all the volunteers on the selection of the Channel Swimming & Piloting Federation as an Honour Organisation. The Hall of Fame welcomes the venerable English Channel institution as one of the truly great organisations in our sport of marathon swimming,” said IMSHOF Honorary Secretary Dale Petranech.
“When so many people devote so much time and energy and spend so many resources in chasing their dream of crossing the English Channel, the Channel Swimming & Piloting Federation faces profound responsibilities,” explains Steven Munatones, Vice President of the International Marathon Swimming Hall of Fame. “With the fickle weather and all the myriad things that can go wrong with any channel swim, the CS&PF does so many things right in managing its responsibilities and dealing with successes and failures, triumphs and disappointments. Dealing with people from different backgrounds and cultures, setting standards, certifying swims, making judgment calls, coordinating everything…the volunteers are faced with significant responsibilities throughout the season. And it just works, a tribute to the organisation and everyone who endeavors to create, support and follow the CS&PF.”
The International Marathon Swimming Hall of Fame’s Class of 2013 also includes the following inductees:
Honour Swimmers include Great Britain’s Lewis Pugh and Nick Adams and Australia’s Melissa Cunningham.
Ned Denison was the recipient of the Irving Davids-Captain Roger Wheeler Memorial Award.
The Honour Administrators include FINA Bureau member Dennis Miller of Fiji and American coach Don Watson
Honour Organisation include the Midmar Mile from South Africa.
A Certificate of Merit was issued to the Open Water Swimming Committee of the Indonesian Swimming Federation.
A Pioneer Swimmer recognized by the International Marathon Swimming Hall of Fame was Rose Pitonof.
ISHOF Finalists included David Yudovin, Mercedes Gleitze, and Dale Petranech.
The names of the honourees, along with 250 other great achievers and outstanding contributors in sport of marathon swimming, will be inscribed on the SEA GODDESS, the official trophy on permanent display at the International Swimming Hall of Fame.
Their formal induction will take place during the annual International Marathon Swimming Hall of Fame ceremonies. In 2011, the ceremonies were held in the United Nations Building in New York City. In 2012, the ceremonies were held on the Queen Mary in Long Beach, California.
