Morrie Chiang, a Professor at the National Taiwan University of Science and Technology, is the race director of the Sun Moon Lake International Swimming Carnival.

Professor Chiang, a candidate for the 2012 World Open Water Swimming Man of the Year, oversees nearly 30,000 people who are expected to take part in the 2013 mass participation open water swim held in central Taiwan.

Each swimmer is tethered to a swim safety device, but the scale of the event is mind-boggling. In 2011, a total of 193 disabled swimmers participated in the 3.3 km swim across Sun Moon Lake, a beautifully tranquil lake at 760 meters (2,493 feet) in altitude.
