What It Takes is a riveting film directed by Rick Davitt and Mark Powell of Under Development Films. What It Takes is the story of the brief journey embarked by the most famous water polo high school program in America.
After winning four consecutive water polo championships, a former Olympian Chris Segesman looks to the famed U.S. Navy SEALs to prepare his group of teenagers for the upcoming season.
Over four seemingly endless days of grueling leadership and teamwork training under the guidance of current and former SEALs in the cold Pacific Ocean, the teenage boys push themselves, suffer, and dramatically overcome the same rigorous exercises and sleep deprivation in the same California training location as do the toughest warriors on the planet.
What It Takes shows how these young boys overcome the strain of physical exertion on no sleep for four days to prepare for their upcoming season. The mental stress and physical ordeal that the boys are faced with on the sandy beach of Coronado and offshore in the wavy Pacific are emotionally captured and bound to inspire viewers of all ages.
2012 season update: with expectations sky high, the Mater Dei team continued its undefeated ways, dominating all season with a group cohesiveness rarely seen at the high school level. It is ranked the unanimous #1 seed in the CIF Southern Section playoffs as the overwhelming favorite to win its fifth consecutive championship.
