The Triple Crown of Open Water Swimming is the sport’s equivalent of the Triple Crown of Thoroughbred Racing.

Members of the Triple Crown of Open Water Swimming (Triple Corona in Spanish) has successfully completed three swims: (1) across the English Channel between England and France, (2) across the Catalina Channel between Santa Catalina Island and the California mainland in the United States, and (3) the Manhattan Island Marathon Swim, a 28.5-mile circumnavigation around New York City.

At the recent All Ireland Long Distance Swimming Party and Irish Long Distance Swimming Association festivities in Fermoy, County Cork, three gladiators of the sea received their Triple Crowns of achievement: Eddie Irwin, Gabor Molnar and
Ned Denison.

For the small community of County Cork, the exploits of Irwin, Molnar and
Denison speak volumes and are representative of the passion and efforts of a growing number of Irish sea swimmers.
