Must be a fun article.
Agree with everything aside the North Channel. Not sure where the Rum and Coke from? A Guinness or a Taliskar may be more suitable 🙂

they are good suggestions and I don’t have any better–although I am not sure about the Singapore Sling for the Cook Strait. Maybe a nice Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc or a Steinlager would be better. Or some classic cocktail involving kiwifruit–not that I can think of any.
Otherwise these look good.

Hmmmm, this is a great topic. One that would be good to discuss over a cocktail, beer or even glass of wine.
Some names you have to be similar to the cocktail name
Ie Strait of Gibraltar would be something to “whiskey straight up”
So here goes
1. English Cannel = Pimms cup
2. Catalina Channel = luau Larry’s Hat drink
3. North Channel= rum and coke
4. Strait of Gibraltar= Scotch on the Rock(s)
5. Molokai channel= Mohitto
6. Tsugaru=Sake
7. Cook Strait = Singapore sling
8. Manhattan;=(this is easy) a Manhattan (top shelf of course)
9. Maui = Mai Tai ( extra sand)
10. Traversee = (blank) with a twist

If Open Water Swims Were Cocktail Drinks
If open water swims were the equivalent of cocktail drinks, what would they be? Thinking imaginatively, this is what the global open water swimming community came up with on the first round.
Although modern cocktail culture has created a number of exotically complicated drinks with a variety of gourmet ingredients, we suggest that open water swims are more similar to great drinks using classic recipes.
