In reference to a previous article about the beluga athletes in open water swimming events, the always active merman Scott Zornig (shown on left), president of the Santa Barbara Channel Swimming Association, reported about an event he used to organize in Southern California where he had 3 different divisions:

Sea Walrus for men at least 220 lbs. (99.7kg)
Sea Maid for women at least 140 lbs. (63.5km)
Dead Fish for the last person to finish.

Zornig’s event was the Orange Coast Relay, a 12-mile ocean relay with 4 swimmers doing 3-mile legs in Orange County, California that started at Salt Creek and finished in Corona Del Mar. The event may be started again as a solo swim.
