Margarita Llorens Bagur completed the 39.8 km (21.3 nautical miles) Menorca Channel (Canal de Menorca) that stretches between the Balearic islands of Menorca and Mallorca in the Mediterranean Sea. She completed the swim in 12 hours 23 minutes in 2012, just off the world record currently held by Teresa Planas set in 2011 in 12 hours 18 minutes.

But Llorens is now planning an even bigger, longer, riskier, and more arduous solo swim attempt: the Cruce Canal Ibiza-Mallorca, an 83 km (51.5 miles) attempt from Ibiza to Mallorca scheduled for the end of June.
