There are well-established and well-known reasons why open water swimmers should stay together while out in the ocean or any body of water.

But there may be another reason.

And that reason Michael Spalding and Linda Kaiser instinctively knew when they have been jointly the object of a shark’s fancy while swimming channels in Hawaii: stick together.

Science reported that the Journal of the Royal Society Interface published a study that describes why gazelles typically gather together when attacked by a lion. Instead of scattering in different directions for survival, the animals form clumps that confuse the predator.

Spalding (shown above) and Kaiser have done this and lived to tell about it. Perhaps these famed Hawaii channel swimmers have more in common with gazelles than ever thought possible?
