Way back in the 19th century, Paolo Petroli completed the first crossing of Lago Maggiore, a large lake that borders Switzerland and Italy. His feat continues to be memorialized.

Claudio Bottene, Presidente GTAL – Gruppo Traversate Acque Libere A.S.D., announced the upcoming Traversata di Nuoto Intra–Laveno-Cerro (Crossing of Lake Maggiore, Intra-Laveno-Cerro) on July 13th.

We look forward to a sunny day in July where swimmers can challenge themselves to a 4 km swim across Lake Maggiore between Verbania-Intra, Piedmont and Laveno-Cerro, in Lombardy.”

There is also a shorter 2.5 km race and a children’s 400m swim. “A day for all, all sports and tourism, all fun and companionship in the height of summer at the III° Traversata di Nuoto Intra–Laveno-Cerro.”
