Black Dog Support In Swim Across The English Channel

Spread the love

Justin Hanby is an Australian ocean swim enthusiast and criminal lawyer.

He wants to make a difference for the Black Dog Institute, a world leader in the diagnosis, treatment and prevention of mood disorders such as depression and bipolar disorder.

Supporting mental health is a cause close to my heart. I was only 3 years old when my father, who suffered from bipolar disorder, took his own life. 44 years later, I continue to see the impact of mental illness on the community in my profession as a criminal lawyer. When I decided to take up the challenge of swimming the English Channel, supporting mental health was the perfect fit. Like many swimmers, my daily water workout is my meditation. I think it’s appropriate that I turn this energy into helping others with mental health challenges.”

Hanby is hosting a Madmen-themed cocktail party on August 23rd at the Tattersalls Club in Sydney, Australia.

In addition to other speakers to the donors and supporters of Hanby, English Channel world record holder Trent Grimsey will speak about marathon ocean swimming. For more information about this event, visit here.
