The Night Train Swimmers – who have been swimming non-stop since last Thursday – are acknowledged as tough and adventurous. Mother Nature does not always give them a break, but today looks like a wonderful culmination of all their hard work, planning, and audacious plans.
The team – Captain Vito Bialla, navigator Hal McCormick, pilot Patrick Horn, and swimmers Phil Cutti, David Holscher, Zach Jirkovsky, Luane Rowe, Blair Cannon, and Grace van der Byl – is finally nearing their goal.
As they are now approaching the famed La Jolla Cove, they are estimating a finish about 9 pm local time tonight in their non-stop charity relay where they have helped raise loads of donations for the Navy SEAL Foundation.
While their collective will and bodies have kept up the pace since last week more than 200 miles north up the California coast, their machinery has not kept up. The generator aboard the Sequel is shot so they cannot charge their iPhones and communications is trickling in via satellite phone. But the Night Train Swimmers can still be followed by their SPOT Tracker here.
The Night Train Swimmers website is here with more information.
