The Lake Toba 120 km Super Swim, part of the famous Lake Toba Festival in Indonesia, was conducted in 3 stages with teams of swimmers completing a 40 km relay each day between September 11th through 13th.
The weather conditions the swimmers faced was challenging, but proved to be one of the great team marathon swimming races conducted in Asia. The breathtaking scenery around the island is sensational and added to the allure of racing 120 km. The courage of the 3 mixed teams of 4 young swimmers each as they battled the challenging condition as they circumnavigated the mighty Samosir island was exceptional. Each team member of 2-male, 2-female relays swam 10 km each day in the 3-day event.
The results of the overall competition and the time per day are below:
1. Team Indonesia C (Ivan ALi Sujana, Annisa Fabiola, Andi Fabian, Utari Dwi Putri) – 11:41:06 + 9:11:18 + 8:27:22 – 29:19:46
2. Team Indonesia B (Made Nusha Sucipta, Risa Andriani, Ramzy Widodo, Shintia Rungkat) – 11:53:11 + 9:24:30 + 8:20:55 – 29:38:36
3. Team Indonesia A (Rivaldy, Eliza Delanira, Aflah Fadlah P, Ghisna Ayeshya) – 12:17:21 + 9:07:24 + 8:53:16 – 30:18:01
Chris Guesdon reports, “Already, plans are in place for next year event in September. The Vice Minister of Indonesian Tourism Sapta Wiranda, who initiated the event, said, ‘For 2014 and beyond, the event would be open to all nations of the world. A detailed entry form with all the various information including details on the conditions, prizes, and competition arrangements will be publicly available at Indonesian Federation Head Quarters and the Daily News of Open Water Swimming.
As apart of Indonesian Open Water Swimming Committee’s commitment to the development of open water swimming across the country, we also conducted a 500-meter open water introduction race for 362 boys and girls from the local area. All in all, the open water swimming promotion was an outstanding success.”
