Emily Brunemann Wins FINA World Cup Series

The initial information from Hong Kong stated that Martina Grimaldi won the 2013 FINA 10K Marathon Swimming World Cup series based on her second-place finish at the final race in Hong Kong. Based on Grimaldi’s finish, she just barely was able to outpoint American Emily Brunemann who had led the series going into the last day.

But the information was based on a double-counting of the points on the last race in Hong Kong today.

Information now appears that the double-counting of the points on the last race was the incorrect method to determine the series. In that case, Brunemann, like her male counterpart Thomas Lurz, wrapped up the overall title on the FINA 10K Marathon Swimming World Cup professional circuit.

This season-ending decision was officially confirmed by FINA today.
