Juan Ignacio Martínez Fernández-Villamil was honored at the WOWSA Awards during the 2013 Global Open Water Swimming Conference in Cork, Ireland.
The long-time inspiration of the Descenso a Nado de la Ría de Navia in northern Spain was recognized for his decades-long, year-round dedication to hosting and organizing the the popular multi-race event.
He won the 2012 World Open Water Swimming Performance of the Year, a well-deserving award for a man who has put his heart and soul into the sport of open water swimming.
