There are certain venues around the world where the luminaries of the sport have gathered and enjoyed particularly magical waters: Dover, Brighton, Waikiki, Aquatic Park, Copacabana, Acapulco, Midmar Dam, and Sydney among many other locations.

One of those places in Sandycove Island.

Its slipway is so simple, but it is a perfect entrance as you descend upon the clear, cool waters and head off to tackle Sandycove Island.

After the 2013 Global Open Water Swimming Conference, seemingly the entire crowd went for a little dip in the beautiful venue, a single loop around an emerald island, one of the gems of the open water swimming world.
