The hosts of the 2020 Tokyo Summer Olympic Games have designed and plans to utilize a compact Games concept. That is, most of the event venues – including Odaiba Marine Park where the Olympic 10K Marathon Swim will be held – will be concentrated within 8 kilometers from the Olympic Village.

This concept will minimize travel times for the athletes and their coaches and is referred to in Japanese as 半径８キロメートル.
