Sometimes, the open water is simply turgid, too rough and too turbulent, a bit on the angry side.

With winds and tides, the shores can be barriers against the stormy seas.

Such was the day in Newcastle, a small town in County Down, Northern Ireland. The seaside resort that lies on the Irish Sea coast was anything but placid and tranquil today.
