In Theodore Yach‘s autobiography, In My Element, he describes his Swimming For The Rhinos when he failed on his first attempt in 2011 when the water temperature dropped to 7.3°C (45°F) and succeeded on his second attempt of 11.4 km from Robben Island to Three Anchor Bay in 3 hours 33 minutes.

He ultimately raised R20,000 for the Save the Rhinos Foundation that works to conserve populations of critically endangered rhinos in Africa and Asia.
