It came down to the finish once again with 7 men fighting for the gold medal in the 10 km marathon swim at the 2014 South American Games (X Juegos Suramericanos) in Laguna Curauma, a lake in Chile between Viña del Mar and Valparaíso near the coast, on Sunday.

Among the lead pack, Allan Do Carmo of Brazil had the most experience, but the rest of his younger competitors were hungry for gold. But the senior statesman of South American open water swimmers came through as he had done time and time again. Carmo out-touched Diego Vera of Venezuela and Santiago Enderica Salgado of Ecuador.
