Gopal Kharvi Handcuffs Himself To History

Gopal Kharvi is an Indian open water swimmer and fisherman from Kundapur who set the world record for the furthest distance swum wearing handcuffs and leg irons at 3.071 km in Malpe, Udupi, India in December 2013. The 2 hour 43 minute swim took place from St Mary’s Island to Malpe Beach in Udupi, India. The speed of currents was discounted as it flowed across and against the swimmer’s direction of travel.

He is a recipient of the Karnataka Rajyotsava Award.
