The Dis-Chem Sun City Open Water Swim in South Africa was started in 1998 by a committee of open water swimmers from Gauteng Masters Swimming.

Many of the members of the first organizing committee are still involved today in helping to run the event. The first swim attracted 173 swimmers swimming 2 laps of a 750m course and has steadily grown.

In 2013, 3,297 swimmers participated. In 2014, 3,196 entrants participated including 59-year-old Milton Brest who will be competing in his 15th Sun City Swim this year [shown above].
