Sheryl McLay of Shorebreak Aquatics has managed the Murray Dingle Memorial Bridge to Bridge Swim the last 3 years. She recalls a little bit of its history in New Zealand.
“During the life of the swim, the bridges have changed. The old ones are gone and the new ones have been built so the swim is not identical to when it started. I resurrected the swim in 2009. The race is now paired with the Round the Mount Swim the following day in Mount Maunganui on January 13th 2013.”
Murray Dingle was the man who started the swim and sadly passed away due to cancer a few years back.
The 4 km Round the Mount Swim starts at the Salisbury Wharf end of Pilot Bay and finishes on Mount Maunganui Main Beach with cash prizes for the fastest man and woman.
