Kristóf Rasovszky Earns Swimming World Magazine Honor

Swimming World Magazine named Kristóf Rasovszky of Hungary as its 2018 Swimming World Male Open Water Swimmer of the Year.

Rasovszky, a 21-year-old former up-and-coming 1500m pool swimmer, earned his first Swimming World honor as he blossomed into one of the world’s fastest open water swimmers this year racing around the world.

When he lines up on the starting pontoon in any conditions and water temperature, he is a threat to win every race he enters from 5 km to 25 km. He pushed world and Olympic champion Ferry Weertman in the 10 km race at the LEN European Championships, finishing in an identical time and losing the gold medal only after an official’s review of the photo finish. He won the shortest (5 km) and longest (25 km) races at the European Championships in dramatic fashion with a powerful finishing kick as well as competed in the 5 km mixed team relay.

He won the FINA/HOSA Marathon Swim World Series race in Setúbal Bay in Portugal and was nominated for the 2018 World Open Water Swimming Man of the Year award [see here].
