The 24th annual International Self-Transcendence Marathon-Schwimmen is one of the world’s most popular and best run marathon swims. The 26.4 km solo and relay swim starts in Rapperswil, Switzerland and finishes in Zurich. Renowned marathon and channel coach Nuala Moore colorfully describes the event, “It is truly a cosmopolitan event. The lake this year was a test. With a constant run of wind and rain, it ensured a lower temperature and lot of frustrated water. Fresh water is challenging; it lifts your body totally unevenly, left arm up, right arm down, legs to the left, hilarious, it’s not an honest battle, more a street fight than a pro fight.
