The International Masters Swimming Hall of Fame changed its name (and acronym from IMSHOF) to the Masters International Swimming Hall of Fame (MISHOF).

But its mission remains the same: to honor and recognize the exploits and achievements talented masters swimmers, coaches, and administrators around the world.

Dr. Jim Miller was selected as a member of its 2019 class of Honorees.  Among the 8 individuals to be inducted on September 13th, Dr. Miller is recognized as a Hall of Fame Contributor.

Brent Rutemiller, CEO of the International Swimming Hall of Fame, wrote, “Dr. Jim Miller’s contributions to aquatics are remarkable in their length and scope.  He has contributed over 40 years as a physician, executive leader, and coach.  Miller has served all five disciplines in the FINA family to promote health, safety, and fitness.”

Dr. Miller served as President of U.S. Masters Swimming between 2001 and 2005 and has participated as a team doctor or a FINA Medical Delegate in every FINA World Championships since 2001.

I learned so much from Dr. Miller,” said Steven Munatones.  “When I had opportunities to travel and attend competitions with him, I always ask him questions, propose hypotheticals, and listen to him explain in both layman’s terms and in detailed medical terms about everything from physiological processes in the body during exercise to psychological tendencies of athletes, and from the effects of hypothermia and hyperthermia.

His wealth of knowledge and experience is vast beyond words.  Aquatics, and the sport of open water swimming and the discipline of masters swimming in particular, is much better because of Dr. Miller.”
