The Santa Barbara Channel Swimming Association announced that Brandon Bass (17), Megan Merlihan (18), Karsten Johnson (16), Mo Bourdi (16), Jessica Moore (15), and Christopher Mykkanen (14) of the Irvine Novaquatics swim team set a new relay record from Santa Cruz Island to the California mainland.
Amid excellent conditions, the team crossed the 19-mile channel in 8 hours 31 minutes.
