Richard Broer, an International Marathon Swimming Hall of Famer and founder of European Open Water Swimming and The Netherlands Open Water Swimming, explained the water flows between the Atlantic Ocean and the Mediterranean Sea, that may be of interest to channel swimmers who cross the Strait of Gibraltar.
“The water flows into the Mediterranean Sea (almost) permanently. That is, because the that sea evaporates faster than it is filled by the Nile River, Rhone River, Donau (Danube) River, etc. can fill it, explaining the high salinity of the Mediterranean Sea.”
