Viva Navia’s Open Water Season

Nacho Sela of the Navia Open Water Swimming Organising Committee welcomes in another season of swims from Navia, Spain. The 53rd annual Descenso a Nado Ría de Navia, one of the world’s greatest open water swimming events, will take place on August 8th with a 5K race for men, 3K for women, 1.7K for masters swimmers and 1.1K for juniors.

The overall winner will receive €1000 with €700 for second and €400 for third.

The race will be broadcast on live television by Spanish channel TPA. The coverage last year was spectacular with helicopter angles and on-the-water shots that beautifully captured the excitement and challenge of the Descenso a Nado Ría de Navia.

The second major race in this area is the 12th annual Copa Asturias which was part of the LEN Cup for the last three years. The race will be held on August 10th where first wins €800, second €500 and third €250 in the 5K race for both men and women,” explained Nacho.

In a particularly nice offering, the organizing committee is offering free accommodations in Navia to all swimmers who participate in the 2010 World Open Water Swimming Championships in Canada in July or the European Open Water Swimming Championships in Hungary in August. “We know how compressed the 2010 calendar is, so we want to help swimmers who want to enjoy our sport and the festive atmosphere of Navia.”

The help is greatly appreciated and another nice touch to the pagentry and excitement shown year after year in Navia, Spain.
