The Union Americana de Natacion (UANA or Amateur Swimming Union of the Americas) hosted an impressive get-together of swimming, diving, water polo and synchronized swimming administrators, coaches and aquatic visionaries in Fort Lauderdale, Florida in an effort to spearhead and drive the organization to help promote and give a more defined purpose throughout the Americas.
The assembled luminaries discussed, deliberated, defined and designed initiatives and goals for the governing body to help all levels of aquatic sports from Chile in the south to Canada in the north.
The UANA meetings dovetailed with the annual International Swimming Hall of Fame and International Marathon Swimming Hall of Fame ceremonies where numerous open water swimmers, including Paul Asmuth (USA), Kevin Murphy (Great Britain), Aleksey Akatyev (Russia), Reg Brikell Jr and Ray Brikell (Great Britain), Christopher Guesdon (Australia), Yuri Kudinov (Russia), Angela Maurer (Germany), Penny Palfrey (Australia), James Pittar (Australia), Bill Sadlo Jr. (USA) and Ann Hardin (USA) were honored.
