Thomas Langlois Three-peats at the MPSF 5 km Open Water Swimming Championships

Thomas Langlois (Whittier College bio here, @thomaslangloisopenwaterswimmer) may have been the smallest swimmer among the 40 swimmers in the 2026 MPSF 5 km Open Water Swimming Championships in Long Beach, California, but he was – by far – the fastest.

The senior Poet from Haut-Richelieu in Québec, Canada won his third straight MPSF Championship title. While his first two titles were tight end-to-end races with close finishes where he is literally only a step ahead of the second and third finishers, this time Langlois left absolutely nothing to chance.

He took off right from the start and never looked back, eventually beating Tanner Nelson (BYU bio here, @t.nels_00) by a minute and 16 seconds and Gavin Willyerd (BYU bio here) by a minute and 54 seconds.

The water was flat and 71.2°F under cloudy skies and warm Southern California temperatures.

The event was live streamed on Game On Live Studio.

“We were very excited to host the fourth MPSF Open Water Swimming Championship,” said MPSF Associate Commissioner for Championships Kaia Hedlund. “We have 16 schools participating from seven different states with 133 athletes competing. We have over 50 volunteers and expect a lot of spectators with Long Beach being the Aquatic Capital of America.”
