Arturo Santos and María N. Simmendinger started Swim Uruguay. They created a training camp and open water swim to Isla de Lobos in Punta del Este.

Santos is one of the pioneers of this crossing and has crossed a total of 5 times including in both directions.

Two weeks ago, Matías Ola, the founder of Swim Argentina, did it with me and two others swimmers,” Santos explained. “It is a wonderful challenge because you swim 10 km offshore to reach the second biggest sea lion reserve in the world. A two-way crossing is 20 km out and back.

We have founded a company to organize all the logistics and legalities and we have partnered with the best professionals in the area, and have chosen the right people in order to help this beautiful project succeed.”

For more information on the November 28th – December 1st camp, visit www.swimuruguay.com.
