The world’s best Special Olympics open water swimmers will be gathering at the end of this month in order to compete in the 1.5K swim at the 2011 Special Olympics World Summer Games.
“Andrew Smilley of the Cayman Islands is the pre-race favorite,” said Technical Delegate Steven Munatones. “The water is warm – which he likes – and he is training fast. He is going to be tough to beat around the two-loop course that should only have minimal surface chop along the coastline.”
The athletes will be wearing bright lime green caps – helping make them the center of attention in the Aegean Sea on race day.
