51-year-old American Scott Wolford attempted to break the Marathon Swimmers Federation distance record of Chloë McCardel (124.4 km) with a 120-mile (193 km) swim in a round-trip course between Chicago, Illinois and St. Joseph, Wisconsin across Lake Michigan.

Annabel Lavers reported that he aborted the charity swim attempt after 15 hours and 18.5 miles in Lake Michigan due to deteriorating conditions and weather, but she vowed, “We’ve learned a lot and plan to be back again.”

Wolford’s progress across Lake Michigan – planned for 60-70 hours – was tracked here [see above], courtesy of Evan Morrison of the Marathon Swimmers Federation.
