World Aquatics made an excellent choice in returning to one of its global epicenters when it selected Santa Fe de la Vera Cruz, Argentina as its location for the 2026 World Aquatics Junior Open Water Swimming Championships. The 9-race event will be held next week between September 3rd and 6th with the 3 km Knockout Sprints, 4x1500m mixed relay, 5 km, 7.5 km, and 10 km races in Lago Sur (South Lake) in Parque del Sur.
Lago Sur will be without the river currents that the long-running 57 km Maratón Acuática Internacional Santa Fe – Coronda is well known for. The young open water athletes should perform well as they will undoubtedly be elevated with the festive atmosphere of Santa Fe. Named one of the World’s Best Open Water Swimming Towns, the area has been the annual site of one of the World’s Top 100 Open Water Swims since 1961.
Day One of the Championships begins with the men’s 10 km race followed by the women’s 10 km for 18-19 year olds.
