72 swimmers from Germany, Great Britain and the Netherlands, ranging from 16 years to 79, swam for the 3K Rondje Noordereiland in the center of Rotterdam in the Netherlands.
The swimmers competed in the Nieuwe Maas, a branch of the the 1,000K Maas (Meuse) river which starts in France, flows through Belgium and runs through Rotterdam before it ends in the North Sea.
The race was won by one of the most passionate, knowledgeable and committed open water swimmers in the world, Richard Broer from Voorburg who is on the board of directors of the International Marathon Swimming Hall of Fame and manages the European Open Water Swimming website together with Niek Kloots, the most venerable source of open water swimming news and information in Europe.
