Red Bull Surf & Rescue is a unique multi-discipline lifeguard competition held in Atlantic City on the seaside community on Absecon Island in New Jersey on July 17th. The competition is open to 4-person teams from up and down the Eastern Seaboard in the United States.

The competition is always close. In 2017, 35 seconds separated the winning team from eighth place.

There are three preliminary rounds, leading to the Championship Finals of the Red Bull Rescue Relay.

Race director Bruckner Chase explains, “The Red Bull Rescue Relay was created to bring a team rescue scenario into the event that showcases disciplines that are part of the daily lives of lifeguards on the beach. The two disciplines are part of international surf lifesaving competition, but the teams will do two disciplines back-to-back with all members of the team crossing the finish line together to close out Red Bull Surf and Rescue 2018.

There will be 00 athletes from 50 teams and roughly 40+ beach patrols competing.”
