Although there are only four open water swimming events conducted at the World Swimming Championships, there were swimmers from 12 countries who received medals for their valiant efforts.

Germany (4 medals), Greece (3), Russia (3), USA (2), Italy (2), Brazil (1), Bulgaria (1), Great Britain (1), Switzerland (1), Australia (1), France (1) and Hungary (1) were the medal-winning nations.
