Marathon swimmer Nicoletta Simonazzisigned a two-year sponsorship with FINIS this week.
The 23-year-old from Gualtieri, Italy hopes to represent Italy in the 25 km races at the 2013 World Swimming Championships and European Swimming Championships. After winning the 2009 Strait of Messina race in Italy, she placed third at the 2010 Sabac 30 km marathon and was seventh overall in the 2010 FINA Open Water Swimming Grand Prix rankings.
In 2011, she finished fifth in the 36 km Maratona del Golfo Capri-Napoli, seventh in the 57 km Maratón Acuática Internacional Santa Fe – Coronda, and improved her ranking to sixth on the 2011 FINA Open Water Swimming Grand Prix circuit. In 2012, she finished fifth again at the 36 km Maratona del Golfo Capri-Napoli race.
