Is Freerunning Open Water Swimming On Terra Firma?

The Tempest Freerunning Academy is the first playground in North America dedicated to freerunning. Freerunning is like parkour, an improvisational street sport.

Freerunning is described as the craft of moving through one’s environment in the most efficient and safest way possible. “Not a lot of other sports constantly push you to try something outside of the box,” explained Gabriel Nunez who does freerunning in several Hollywood movies as a stuntman. “Freerunning definitely does.”

Freerunning sounds a lot like open water swimming to us. It exudes freedom and exuberance. That same joy that freerunners have and demonstrate is what open water swimmers possess.

Open water swimming is definitely something out of the box, similar to freerunning on land. Venturing beyond the shoreline, managing waves, white chop, currents, tides in an environment where navigation is usually a challenge and where marine life, both large and small, and water temperatures are additional elements of risk is both enjoyable and risk-taking.

Freerunning and open water swimming: pure unadulterated, exhilarating freedom.

But while freerunning costs at the Tempest Freerunning Academy, open water swimming in the nearby Pacific Ocean is always free.
