Penny Palfrey will be swimming from Cayman Brac to Little Cayman Island – a 5-mile channel swim – today at 12:30 pm New York time (11:30 am local time in the Cayman Islands).
You can follow Penny’s attempt here. The short swim is a warm-up for her 68-mile swim attempt from Little Cayman to Grand Cayman Island later in the week.
But her chief pilot, Rod McDowall of Red Sail Sports, is cautious.
“The weather system that is now south of Grand Cayman continues to have potential to disrupt Penny’s plans and timing for the Bridging The Cayman Islands. Our schedule at the moment is for Carib Princess to begin escorting Penny from Little Cayman on Thursday, June 9th morning at 3:00 am.”
If this schedule is maintained and Penny swims according to plan, she should arrive in Grand Cayman sometime between 12 noon and 8 pm on the following day. If the weather prevents a safe or successful swim, the swim will be moved back a day or two as the conditions dictates.
Penny can be followed by tweets here, live audio feeds here and by GPS tracking on the Flowers Sea Swim website here.
