Steve … Below is the written copy of what I said at the OW conference. I have added a qualifying remark at the end because I am not sure of where the Open Water Congress falls in the structure:
Steve Munatones should use his open water global congress as a “think tank.”
As an outgrowth of the Open Water Congress our 3/18-2011 Open Water meeting was used as a thing tank for developing and establishing mission, goals, and objectives for his Open Water Sources. I am working under the concept that the Open Water Congress is an arm of open water sources.
Part of the program in addition to development of a organizational mission statement will be the development of certification programs for Open Water Coaches, Officials and Race Organizers.
There is no intention to step on the toes or take over any existing water programs on safety or the projects of other groups or organization, but to serve as a supporting agency for those groups and organization as a tool for their use. I would envision that Open Water Sources operates in much the same way as the American Swimming Coaches Association (ASCA) operates. Possible outside organization we could assist are but not limited to are FINA, NGBs to include USAS agencies (USA SWimmuing and US Masters), Swim Canada, Australian Swimming, English swimming groups(The CSA, CS&PA, BLDSA), IMSHOF, ISHOF, Race Organizers, etc.
Hopefully formal written agreements can be established with these and other open water swimming groups not specifically mentioned above organizations.
SOME AFTER THOUGHTS:
In my marks on the Open Water Swimming Global Congress (OWSGC), I was shooting from the hip and using a function of that body rather than considering any formal structure that may exist. The OWSGC may have a formal organization but I do not know it… it could be a planning committee for Open Water Sources, an ad hoc committee to make recommendation to several bodies or a formal body to do the same. I just do not know how we plan to use the OWSGC or the structure of our overall world structure as we are attempting to improve our status quo.
