Right before the Samoa Swim Series, the Pacific Open Water Challenge is a 2-day series of races (10 km + 5 km) held in Samoa.
Three visiting swimmers from New Zealand swept the top three positions at the 2016 Pacific Open Water Challenge: Christina Harris (Nelson) who won overall in 4 hours 27 minutes for the 10 km + 5 km races, followed by Mike Cochrane (Auckland) and Colleen Neilson (AucklandChristchurch).
In addition to the Pacific Ocean Water Challenge, race director Seti Afoa of Samoa Events will also organize the Apolima Strait 22.3km Swim, the
Five Islands Challenge, the Samoa Swim Series, and Fiji Swims and Beqa Island 14 km Swim in Fiji.
