The only ‘downhill swimming race in Texas’ is the Cap 2k Open Water Race & Pledge Swim, a 2 km point-to-point course from Red Bud Isle toward the center of downtown Austin in Lady Bird Lake on April 29th.

The 16th annual Cap 2k is listed in Austin’s Top 75 Things To Do, rated as one of the Top 10 Recreational Events in Austin, among the Top 100 Open Water Swims in America, and concurrently hosts the 9th Annual Open Water Swimming Texas High School State Championships.

Race director and triple Olympic gold medalist Sandy Neilson-Bell describes the event, “Other divisions in the event include masters swimmers, youth swimmers, first-responders, and those who want to wear wetsuits.

Participants and their families and friends can enjoy a beautiful course, live music, and a post-race picnic within the unique charm of Austin, Texas while supporting the fight against prostate cancer. Spectators can view the entire swim, from start to finish, from the MoPac Pedestrian Bridge or other spots along the lake or enjoy the race on board Capital Cruise’s double-decker electric boat.”
