Alisee Pisane (23, Belgium, World Aquatics bio here, USC bio here, @pisanealisee) played her cards just right at the 2026 MPSF 5 km Open Water Swimming Championships in Long Beach, California.

Pisane took over the lead with 600 meters to go over Vivien Nett (Hungary, Washington State University bio here, @nettv43978) who had led the lead pack from the start. Kyra Rabess (Cayman Islands, University of Northern Colorado bio here, @ky.ra_swim) gave chase and collided with Pisane around the last turn buoys, but the USC Trojan had enough in her tank to hold off Rabess.

Each of the podium winners has both open water and international experience. Pisane with World Cup competitions, Nett at the European Junior Open Water Swimming Championships, and Rabess at the Flowers Sea Swim and third at the 2025 MPSF Championships.

The water was flat and 71.2°F under cloudy skies and warm Southern California temperatures.

The event was live streamed on Game On Live Studio.

“We were very excited to host the fourth MPSF Open Water Swimming Championship,” said MPSF Associate Commissioner for Championships Kaia Hedlund. “We have 16 schools participating from seven different states with 133 athletes competing. We have over 50 volunteers and expect a lot of spectators with Long Beach being the Aquatic Capital of America.”

The University of Northern Colorado relay team of Kyra Rabess, Emma On-The-Hill, Ellyson Lombardi, and Audrey Varet [shown above on left] won the collegiate relay race and the overall team title. “I am extremely proud of our girls racing to become the 2026 MPSF Open Water Relay and Overall Team Champions,” assistant coach Kyle Ponsler said. “The preparation we have put into training and progressing as a program this fall makes this a tremendous accomplishment to start this season.“
